Application
Wood barrels are used in the beverage industry to ferment wine and spirits. With continued use, the barrels become stained and contaminated which may lead to spoilage or poor-quality products. Sioux’s Barrel Steam Tool when used with a steam source, such as a Sioux Steam-FloTM steam generator, is an effective way of ensuring the highest quality product is available when it is time to extract the wine or spirits.
Features
- Stainless steel construction
- Steam rated shutoff valve
- Multi-port steam injection tube
- Heavy-duty, multi-directional base
- Aluminum, spring-loaded bung alignment cone with vent ports
- Aluminum handles
- Dual scale temperature gauge
- 1-1/2” Tri-clamp ferrule connection
Benefits
Sioux’s patent pending Barrel Steam Tool’s stainless-steel construction of the base, shut-off valve, and steam injection tube with vent ports provides ultimate reliability and extended service life. The dual scale, analog temperature gauge is easy to ready and protected by the grip handles.
Sioux’s innovative design, with its axial compensating bung alignment cone, ensures a precise fit with various size barrels. This increases the heat transfer efficiency which decreases the time it takes to heat a barrel to the desired temperature, saving energy and water. The spring-loaded bung alignment cone, made of solid aluminum, maintains its integrity and will not degrade, deform or stain.
Steaming barrels is advantageous to washing because the elevated temperature of steam, 212°F+, penetrates the wood to naturally kill bacteria, such as Brettanomyces and Zygosaccharomyces. Low-pressure steam uses less water compared to a typical wash system. Steam neutralizes contaminants, microbes, and bacteria without the use of chemicals leaving no additional residue during the cleaning process. In addition to the cleaning benefits, steam expands the staves of the barrel to ensure the integrity of the barrel.
This tool is a game changer when used with the Sioux SF3.8E Steam-Flo or other steam source to steam wood barrels.
