Steam Generator FAQs

Steam Generators

When firing the Steam-Flo® from a cold start, steam will begin to discharge within 10-15 minutes and will be at full production within 20 minutes. Steam will be produced continuously thereafter.

Standard models without a feedpump can be operated off of either 120V/1Ph/60Hz, 230V/1Ph/60Hz, or 220V/1Ph/50Hz and require an operating circuit of 15 amps or 20 amps.

Yes, the unit can be configured to produce hot water rather than steam and will have a maximum pressure of 30 PSI.  Please consult the factory if your require circulation pumps or additional controls for your application.

Yes, Sioux stocks various sizes and configurations of steam generators to minimize lead-time.  This includes units mounted on over-the-road trailers or even in fully enclosed trailer packages.  If we do not have something in stock to meet your requirements, we can normally build and ship equipment in a reasonable time frame.

Steam-Flo steam generators are available in leg, skid, or trailer mounted configurations.  Various trailer packages are available including two-wheel, four-wheel tandem, or six-wheel triple axle depending on the size of unit.  Self-contained trailer packages are also available in an open or enclosed trailer configuration that include a diesel generator for power, water storage tank and feed pump.

Yes, Sioux offers a wide variety of accessories including steam gate and solenoid valves, hose, tarps, and steam manifolds plus many others.  We also offer specialized steam control systems for various market applications such as kiln controls for precast curing and container control for steaming products inside of an enclosure.

The size of the area is dependent on the size of unit that you use.  Sioux has several different sizes of units ranging from 380 to 3,450 lbs. of steam per hour.  Depending on the unit, it could be anywhere between 1200 and 4800 square feet.

Sioux Steam-Flo steam generators are available in 11, 20, 25, 50, and 100 boiler horsepower.

The more time spent steaming an area, the greater the depth that will be achieved.  Most Growers desire a depth between 4 to 8".

Most weed seeds are eliminated when the soil is heated to a temperature of between 160-180F and then held at that temperature for 30 minutes.  Temperature may vary depending on soil density so multiple reading should be taken throughout the area for a uniform sample.

Steaming soil eliminates weeds, pathogens, virus, and pests in an organic manner without the use of harmful chemicals.  Steamed soil produces a higher yield and requires significantly less labor for weeding than soil that has not been treated.

Yes, Sioux's Container Control will allow users to set a specific temperature and steam injection time to control the flow of steam entering an enclosure for this application.
